The World of Politics Moving At a Fast Pace

12/2/08

Although the 2008 election may be over; politics continues to move as swiftly as ever.

Here's what has been going on in the United States and around the world, in no particular order:

Georgia Senate Runoff
Today is the Georgia Senate runoff between Saxby Chambliss and Jim Martin. The polls leading up to the election show Chambliss squeaking out a win over Martin.

Insider Advantage: Chambliss 50%, Martin 46%.
Public Policy Polling: Chambliss 53%, Martin 43%.
Research 2000: Chambliss 52%, Martin 46%.
Politico: Chambliss 50%, Martin 47%.
Mellman Group: Chambliss 48%, Martin 46%.

AVERAGE: Chambliss 51%, Martin 46%.

Recession
America is "officially" in recession and they say that we have been in such a slump for a year. They are telling us stuff that we already knew, aren't they?

According to the Rasmussen Reports tracking polls of economic conditions; 63% of voters said their economic outlook was getting worse on election day. That grew to a maximum of 74% on November 22 and has dipped back down to 67% today.

One-fourth of all workers, according to a recent poll, are worried about losing their job.

Hillary Clinton Chosen As Secretary of State
One critique of Condoleezza Rice as Sec. State is that she was just a puppet for the Bush administration. But at least we know Clinton will not be a puppet. Obama has assembled his team with the philosophy that he wanted strong voices and strong opinions that are willing to question him and the pick of Hillary Clinton proves that.

About 60% of voters favored Clinton's choice as Secretary of State. (Source: Gallup, conducted Nov 18).

Terrorism in Mumbai - (Source: Mumbai Attacks Linked to Pakistan Militants)
India is the perfect training ground for terrorists because it borders with Pakistan, a country that knowingly harbors terrorists. And India is a prime target because it is the world's largest democracy and has a significant Muslim population (12%) that feels threatened. Indian Airlines had a plane hijacked in December 24, 1999 and it was not too long later that America dealt with 9-11-2001. Now that India had to deal with terrorists with guns, could the same fate find its way to America's soil?

The People's Alliance for Democracy in Thailand - (Source)
The PAD sieged major airports in Bangkok and put the pressure on their Supreme Court to rule that the ruling party be disbanded.
