Elizabeth Edwards Takes Up Fight For Her Husband 8-16-07 As the campaign trail heats up, spouses of candidates start to come into the scene. One of the most outspoken spouses who come to the rescue of her husband is Elizabeth Edwards, wife of Democratic candidate John Edwards. In a recent interview, Elizabeth Edwards took the issue about her husbands candidacy at heart saying that her husband is the most qualified to become president. She said that although “We can't make John black, we can't make him a woman” Edwards is still the best person who could champion the welfare of the people especially in the areas of health care. She believes that Senator Barack Obama’s plan on health care which includes the universal coverage is inadequate to say the least since this left around 15 million Americans uninsured and unprotected. However, the claim of Elizabeth Edwards was later on refuted by the Obama camp saying that the plan is supposed to become universal over time. According to the Obama campaign, the proposed measures are aimed at reducing the cost of insurance over time so that people can afford to get insurance coverage. Aside from lambasting Obama on the issues of health care, Elizabeth Edwards also bravely criticized Senator Hillary Clinton over the same issue of health care. She said that Clinton is not even producing a health care plan and that she doubts if Clinton even has the “political will” to ever enact a universal health care plan at all. The allegations of Elizabeth Edwards over the inability of Clinton to address health care seem to fall on deaf ears. The Clinton campaign simply refuses to make any comments on the interview of Elizabeth Edwards.
