» Commentary by Kris Lazaro (registered Democrat)

Gallup recently conducted a yearly poll that asked whether or not Americans would have enough money when they retired. Sadly, the amount of those who said they would not have enough outnumbered those who said they would have enough money by a margin of 11% (52% said they would not have enough money while 41% said they would not).

This data is in contrast with 2003 data, where roughly 59% said they would have enough money while 35% said they would not have enough.

This change might be attributed to lost savings and lost 401k revenues, brought upon by the recent recession. The outlook is bleak for those who are about to retire, but to this author, for those who are still working and who do not plan to retire in the near future, 401k's and the stock market in general should recuperate and bounce back.

Those who do not have enough money to retire right now might end up working more and delaying their retirement until they do have enough money. Times are tough.
