Americans Oppose Closing Of Gitmo6/5/09 Tags: National Security, Terrorism From Gallup (conducted: 5/29-31/09)
» Commentary by Kris Lazaro (registered Democrat) In a surprising new poll released by Gallup recently, it showed Americans' unwillingness and disagreement regarding the proposed closure of Guantanamo Bay, the prison which houses suspected terrorists against the United States. President Obama vowed to closed down the symbolic prison days after his inauguration, and while he has enjoyed the full support of the American public in almost all of his key decisions and actions, this one might be a little different. Similarly, the poll also asked whether they would want the terrorists housed in their state. A whopping 74% declined and would not support the idea of these prisoners in their state. To this author, the idea of Guantanomo (Gitmo) is a bad image for this country. We need to close down this prison to help improve our image in the world. Amongst other things, torture was performed in this prison, leading to its notoriety. If we want the world to see us differently, this prison must not continue to operate and the prisoners moved elsewhere. Check Gmail, Facebook, and IM simultaneously with Digsby.
