Catholic Church Attendance on The Decline4/10/09 Tags: Religion From Gallup (conducted: 1955-2009)
» Commentary by Kris Lazaro (registered Democrat) As we enter the Easter triduum this weekend, we explore the unfortunate decline of American Catholics' declining church attendance over the past few decades. Accoring to Gallup polling, the organization has reported that there has been a clear-cut decline in the church attendance of Catholics since the mid-1950s. One can only ponder the reasons for this decline. Perhaps American Catholics are becoming too busy or simply not interested in religion anymore, but the truth of the matter is that religion is playing a smaller role in the lives of American Catholics. Scandals, such as the priest molestation fiasco, has hindered any possible upstick in church attendance in the recent past. It is the hope of this author that American Catholics once again regain their faith and start returning to mass on a regular basis.
