Great Majority Believe Life Experience More Valuable Than College5/9/09 Tags: General From Rasmussen (conducted: 5/2-4/09)
» Commentary by Kris Lazaro (registered Democrat) In a recent Rasmussen telephone survey Americans were asked where the majority of learning occurs: college or real life experience? Not surprisingly a great majority (80%) responded to life experiences as being the most influential in a person's life. This author tends to agree with this statement. As a college graduate, this author sees the inherent value in going to a post-secondary school and the benefits it affords an individual. College teaches a student many skills and knowledge about the world, but nothing can replace real-world experience. A person may have all the knowledge of a certain topic and be the master of it, but if such a person cannot apply it to practical means, then all that learning is for naught. Practical experiences count more in the real-world than book smarts. Life experiences build character and practical skills, while the sterile environment of college lays the blueprint for success.
