High Praise For President Elect Obama During Transition Period12/10/08 Tags: Obama Transition, Presidential Ratings From Los Angeles Times
» Commentary by Kris Lazaro (registered Democrat) President-elect Obama is enjoying great support from polled voters in a recent LA Times survey. It turns out that even though half of Americans voted for the 'other guy', a great chunk of polled voters approved of the transition. Obama is perhaps pandering to those who may have felt leftout. This includes the Clinton Democrats, National Security people, and the like. He selected Hillary Clinton as his secretary of State, selected (or re-selected) Robert Gates as Secretary of Defense, and is seeking to balance out his cabinet with other key selections. Obama's future as a president will surely hinge of the successes of his cabinet members. Though he will have the final say in all things, his secretaries will be his symbolic appendages and will surely influence both domestic and foreign affairs. His appointments of 'rivals' (in a team of rivals) is a great reflection of his tenacity and openness to better this country. Obama's commitment to change must come from within and amongst people who have had experience in this new world. These new appointments will help the American image abroad, as Hillary Clinton is seen as someone who is knowledgeable and cares about foreign affairs. The reselection of defense secretary Robert Gates will also serve as continuity in this ongoing war on terror. In all, Obama is doing a great job in framing his new cabinet in what should be a new era in American democracy. Check Gmail, Facebook, and IM simultaneously with Digsby.
