Slight Majority Favor Economic Growth Over Environment3/19/09 Tags: Economy, Environment From Gallup (conducted: 3/5-8/09)
» Commentary by Kris Lazaro (registered Democrat) Desperate times call for desperate measures. In a recent Gallup poll conducted, it found that a slight majority of Americans now favor economic growth over the protection of the environment. This interesting result is the first time in the 25 year history of the poll that the economy has won over the environment. While the author is astounded over this new polling data, it is no surprise as to why the results came as it is. People are suffering and with a bad economy some sacrifices must be made. The environment, nonetheless, should not be given a back seat in the situation. Our economy will bounce back, as evidenced by historical data and trends. But, the environment may not behave similarly. At what point do we sacrifice our financial well-being over our environmental well-being? Check Gmail, Facebook, and IM simultaneously with Digsby.
