Slight Majority Of Americans Say Capitalism Is Better Than Socialism4/9/09 Tags: General From Rasmussen (conducted: 4/6-7/09)
» Commentary by Kris Lazaro (registered Democrat) In a recent Rasmussen telephone survey the polling organization found that Americans are losing interest in Capitalism. Only a slight majority say Capitalism is better than Socialism (53%). Another interesting trend developing are those Americans under 30: they were essentially divided, saying 37% preferred Capitalism, 33% preferred Socialism, and 30% were undecided. Among the older generation (those over 40) strongly favored Capitalism, wile only 13% thought Socialism was better. What this polling data suggests is that Americans' viewpoints about Capitalism and Socialism are changing. The ideology of the country is in flux, in light of the recent economic downturn. Interestingly, to this author, there are some great points in both Socialism and Capitalism. One cannot simply say one is better than the other. It is the hope of this author that Americans create a hybrid ideology between these two schools of thought. As we progress into this new century let us be examples to the rest of the world and work in cooperation with them, not against them.
