» Commentary by Kris Lazaro (registered Democrat)

As the deadline for filing taxes passed this week, and with the Obama administration's new policy of social spending in full effect, the great state of Texas brought up an interesting topic not readily discussed in US politics: secession.

As groups around the country demonstrated and rebelled against new taxes in the form of 'tea parties' this week, Texan voters took it up another level by stating their intentions to leave the US. In a recent Rasmussen telephone poll, Texans voters said their state had a right to secede (31%), while 18% would actually vote to secede.

To this author this is all a bunch of hot air. Texas has long been known to be a red state, although future projections show a shift in the near future. For Texans to speak of secession is pure ludicrous. Texans are a tough bunch, but for them to speak of secession is nothing short of treason. This author believes those 18% are just stating the push for secession as a means to get their voices heard. There is questioning the government and then there is outright disobedience.

For Texas to be their own country they would have to produce viability and autonomy, and according to this author, this state cannot and will not survive without the cooperation of the Union.

Those 18% of Texans need to get real.
