The Midwestern USA is home to the nation?s fifth most populous state, Illinois. Its capital city of Springfield was home to illustrious residents of the nation ? President Abraham Lincoln and President Ulysses S. Grant. However it is the dynamic metropolitan city of Chicago that takes center stage today for being the largest city in Illinois and the nation?s third most populous city.

Illinois is an active education hub and has several reputed colleges and universities. The notable centers of knowledge are the University of Chicago, Northwestern University, and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign among others.

Illinois is popularly demarcated into three geographical divisions, namely the Northern Illinois, comprising of Chicago and the close by metropolitan regions, Central Illinois referred to as the Heart of Illinois is mainly home to small towns and the capital city of Springfield, and the Southern Illinois that is relatively more populated compared to the central part of the state.

A visit to Illinois is incomplete without being overwhelmed by the perfect tribute to Abraham Lincoln offered by Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library & Museum in Springfield.

Illinois has several state parks and national historic sites, with Allerton Park and Retreat Center and Rend Lake being premier vacation destinations. Wrigley Field in Chicago named in honor of chewing gum tycoon William Wrigley Jr. is among the oldest ballparks in USA. Northern Illinois has amazing Starved Rock State Park that preserves lush green forests, majestic waterfalls and splendid canyons.

Illinois is a truly cosmopolitan land and the trip opens up a world of natural beauty and history.
